May’s Renewal — Designing in Season with Purpose

May arrives with a quiet invitation—not to rush, not to force—but to renew.

There’s something about this season that mirrors the heart of what I do every day… not just in design, but in life. The earth doesn’t strive to bloom—it simply responds to the conditions it’s been given. And when the light hits, when the rain falls, when the roots are deep… growth becomes inevitable.

And the same is true for us.

A Season of Becoming, Not Forcing

In design, spring is not about replacing everything. It’s about revealing what was already there—waiting.

  • The texture that felt heavy now feels grounding

  • The corner that felt forgotten becomes intentional

  • The thrifted piece you almost passed up becomes the anchor

This is the beauty of a brilliantly sustainable lifestyle—you’re not constantly chasing new, you’re learning how to see with new eyes.

And if I’m honest… that’s how God works in us too.

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?” — Isaiah 43:19 (KJV)

Not always brand new materials. Not always a new space. But a new revelation within the same structure.

Design Insight: Spring Reset Without Starting Over

If you’re feeling the pull to refresh your space this month, don’t start with shopping. Start with alignment.

Here’s how I approach a May reset:

Edit Before You Add

Walk your space and remove what no longer aligns with how you want to live. Not clutter—misalignment.

Reposition with Purpose

Sometimes the transformation isn’t in what you buy—it’s in what you move.Shift a chair toward the light.Recenter your table.Let the room breathe again.

Introduce Living Elements

Bring in what reflects life—greenery, natural textures, woven fibers, wood, stone. These aren’t trends. They’re reminders of creation.

Honor the Story

That thrifted piece? That inherited item? That handmade art?Spring is the season to highlight it, not hide it.

Faith Meets Function: The Inner Room Matters Too

Just like our homes, our hearts require tending.

May is a beautiful checkpoint to ask:

  • What have I been holding onto that God is asking me to release?

  • Where have I been striving instead of abiding?

  • What in my life needs to be repositioned, not replaced?

Because here’s the truth…

You can redesign a room, but if your spirit is heavy, the space will feel it.

I’ve learned in my own life—through motherhood, through building Facets by JèM, through every quiet morning at 5 AM with my Bible and my coffee—that true transformation starts within.

Design becomes the overflow.

From Thrift to Testimony

One of my favorite parts of this season is thrifting.

Not just for what I find… but for what it represents.

Pieces that were overlooked.Passed by.Considered “done.”

And yet—when placed in the right environment, with the right care—they become something beautiful, functional, and full of purpose again.

That’s not just design.That’s redemption.

A Gentle Reminder for This Month

You don’t need to become someone else this May.

You don’t need to overhaul your life or your home overnight.

You simply need to:

  • Stay planted

  • Stay positioned

  • Stay open to the light

Growth will come.
